Fixity Check is the blog of the Digital Preservation Unit at the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
Fixity Check highlights digital preservation efforts at NARA and offers a glimpse into the broad scope of work that is digital preservation. The blog announces the availability of new or updated work products, discusses current research projects, and provides insight into the day-to-day work of digital preservation at NARA through interviews with NARA staff.
The Digital Preservation Unit has a mandate to support electronic records processing archivists, perform audits of the holdings, and assess the need to perform preservation actions. We guide internal digital preservation operations at NARA by:
- Authoring the agency-wide Digital Preservation Strategy
- Maintaining a Holdings Profile across all custodial units
- Maintaining the Digital Preservation Framework
- Coordinating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for digital preservation and management of files
- Providing consultation and training for NARA staff
- Conducting program assessments
We encourage our readers to comment on postings. Comments will be moderated according to NARA’s comment and posting policy.
